Where are the Worst Potholes in Crystal Lake, Cary?
We are looking to readers to tell us where the worst potholes in the area are this spring season.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL - With the start of spring comes an unpleasant time for drivers as more potholes inevitably crop up on area roadways.
Potholes occur when snow-melt or rain seeps through the crack of pavement and when the moisture cannot adequately drain, causing the sub-base and soil to become saturated and soft. With more freeze and thaw cycles, the pavement can crack even more and passing traffic weakens the pavement even more, according to the American Public Works Association Pothole Fact Sheet.
As temperatures rise and the ice melts, a void is left under the pavement, according to the APWA. This void collects more water, and during the next freeze, the void will widen. Vehicles driving over the weakened pavement pound it until the surface breaks and collapses into the void below, thus creating a pothole.
