Woman Killed In Crash Near Woodstock Identified

The collision occurred on Route 176 west of Sunnyside Road in unincorporated Woodstock on Wednesday night.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL —A Marengo woman who was killed in a collision last week near Woodstock has been identified as Mabel Esquivel, 44, of Marengo.

The collision occurred on Route 176 west of Sunnyside Road in unincorporated Woodstock at about 8:15 p.m. Wednesday, when a 2019 Dodge Challenger, driven by a 44-year-old Marengo man, crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a 2016 Mazda 6.

Neither the passenger in the Dodge, the 44-year-old Marengo woman, nor the driver, a 44-year-old Marengo man, were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Esquivel was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

Preliminary findings from an autopsy revealed she died from blunt force trauma.

The 44-year-old Marengo man was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville in serious condition. The driver of the Mazda 6, a 27-year-old Union woman, and a passenger in her car, the 4-year-old boy, were taken by ambulance to Northwestern Medical Center in Woodstock. The boy was later transported to Lurie's Children's Hospital in Chicago with serious injuries.

A dog inside the Mazda also died, and another dog was taken to an emergency veterinarian for observation.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
