Injuries from Motorcycle Crash Claim Mom's Life Day After Son's Graduation

Amy Thornton died Sunday following a May 6 motorcycle crash in McHenry.

Amy Thornton, 42, was in a coma the night her son, Zach, graduated from Woodstock North High School, and her husband, Mike, was by her side, watching his graduation via livestream from a hospital bed, according to the Northwest Herald. The next day, Thornton was taken off of life support and died at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

Both Amy and Mike Thornton were seriously injured in crash on May 6 when a 2002 Ford Taurus traveling north on Route 31 just south of Shoppers Drive in McHenry collided with the couple’s southbound 2007 Harley Davidson Road Glide, according to an earlier article in the Northwest Herald.

The driver of the Ford Taurus, Sheree Ann Shaw, of Twin Lakes, Wis., was arrested following the crash and charged with no valid driver’s license, according to the Northwest Herald.
