Yoga in the Woods, Discovery Days: Fall MCCD Events

MCCD: Yoga with Colors
Wednesday, September 25 from 6–7 p.m. at Coral Woods Conservation Area, 7400 Somerset, Marengo. Join us for an evening of color and calm. The instructors from the Cultivate Studio in McHenry will lead us in a sequence designed to soak up the colors and enjoy the forest. This class is suited for all levels and everyone should feel welcome. Dress to be outside! Fee: County resident Free /NR $5.00. Just for Adults, ages 14 years and older. Registration required.
Intro to Campfire Cooking
Thursday, October 3 from 6–7:30 p.m. at Lost Valley Visitor Center Patio in Glacial Park, Route 31 and Harts Rd., Ringwood. Learn how to use a variety of tools to cook over an open fire. Try your hand at making foil packets and using pie irons to create delicious meals and treats perfect for your next camping trip. You will not only enjoy the food that we cook but will also take home a recipe booklet so you can continue practicing your new skills. Fee: County resident $5.00/NR $8.00. Adults and Families ages 8 and up. Registration required.

Nocturnal Discovery Walk
Friday, October 11 from 7–8:30 p.m. at Prairieview Education Center, 2112 Behan Road, Crystal Lake. Take the time to enjoy a fall evening at the Prairieview Education Center, where we’ll explore the wonders of nature at night. Even the familiar might look different with moonlight shadows! We’ll go for a hike and play a few games in the outdoors, so dress for a walk and the weather. Fee: County resident Free/NR $5.00 Adults and Families ages 8 and up. Registration required.
Fall Color Hike
Saturday, October 12 from 1:30–3:30 p.m. at Coral Woods Conservation Area, 7400 Somerset, Marengo. Come out to Coral Woods and experience fall colors as they start to emerge. Be prepared to hike about 1.5 miles around the Conservation Area. We will also be collecting colorful fall leaves during the hike to create a fall candle luminary that you can take home with you! Fee: County resident $3.00/NR $5.00 Adults and Families ages 7 and up. Registration required.

Discovery Days
Wednesday, October 16 from 10–11 a.m. at Shelter #1–Marengo Ridge Conservation Area, 2411 N. IL Rt. 23, Marengo. Enjoy an hour of fun including a game, craft, snack and other educational activities all based around the special theme of the day. A short hike will be included, weather permitting. Fee: County resident Free/NR $5.00. Just for Kids ages 2–6, with chaperone. Registration required.
Survival Challenge
Sunday, October 20 from 2–3:30 p.m. at campground–Rush Creek Conservation Area, 20501 McGuire Road, Harvard. Do you have what it takes to survive in nature? Test your survival skills against the elements. We will be learning the basics of fire building, shelter building and water filtration. Fee: County resident Free/NR $5.00. Adults and Families ages 7 and up. Registration required by 10/16.
Owl Walk
Sunday, October 20 from 5–7 p.m. at Lost Valley Visitor Center in Glacial Park, Route 31 and Harts Rd., Ringwood. Search for sights and sounds of the owls that reside in Glacial Park. The evening begins with a guided hike to listen for owls. Then head inside where a slide presentation and a visit from a live owl will introduce you to these magnificent creatures. Dress for the weather and for walking one mile over hilly terrain. Fee: County resident Free/NR $5.00. Just for Adults, ages 14 years and older. Registration required.
