• Two charged in fatal Danville shooting (foxillinois.com) — Danville police and county officials are investigating a fatal shooting that killed 24-year-old Krisean M. Watson of Danville on Plum Street Friday night. Two 19-year-old Danville men have been arrested on preliminary murder and related charges, and investigators are still asking anyone with information to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
   

• 'Combat Ready, Crown Worthy': Mickensy Ellis-White Named Top 20 Finalist for Ms. Veteran America 2026 (vermilioncountyfirst.com) — Danville’s own Mickensy Ellis-White, an Army Reserve veteran and local counselor, has been named a Top 20 finalist for the 2026 Ms. Veteran America competition. She’s using the platform to raise funds and awareness for homeless women veterans, including local outreach events and an online campaign supporting Final Salute, Inc.
   

• Illinois awards nearly $200K in nonprofit grants (newschannel20.com) — United Way of Danville is among 10 small nonprofits statewide sharing nearly $200,000 in new Illinois Charitable Trust grants to support food, housing, and essential services. Local residents may also benefit from a future round, as applications are open through September on the state treasurer’s website.
