📰 News we're reading

• Norman Flaws, 88 (patch.com) — Darien residents are remembering longtime community member and Navy veteran Norman Flaws, who built a loving family life in Darien with his wife Patricia and was active in local Boy Scouts and the Darien Lions Club for 15 years. His career as an electrician included major Chicago projects, but friends and family recall most his humor, generosity, and devotion to loved ones. A graveside service with military honors is planned in Elwood later this month.

• Still Friends: Chickens Divide Darien Neighbors (patch.com) — Darien neighbors in the Tara Hill subdivision are clashing over backyard chicken coops, even as they insist they’ll remain friends. After complaints about noise, smells and views, the Municipal Services Committee backed limited fencing exceptions for coops on Carlow and Donegal drives, sending the issue to the full City Council. The debate highlights how Darien’s 2020 chicken rules still stir strong opinions on both sides.

• Despite Protests, Darien Panel OKs Priests' Home (patch.com) — Darien officials have advanced a special-use permit for a Robert Road home the Society of Mount Carmel plans to use as housing for priests, despite strong objections from nearby Tara Hill subdivision residents. Neighbors raised concerns about tax exemptions, possible transient use, and home values, while aldermen emphasized legal protections for religious housing and limited occupancy to six residents. The full City Council is expected to vote on the proposal next Monday.
