Learn how to welcome pollinators to your gardens by creating habitat and providing for their lifecycle in your garden.

In June, Darien Garden Club will partner with Indian Prairie Public Library to celebrate National Pollinator Month. Join us in Keshav's Garden as we celebrate the vital role of pollinators in our ecosystem.

We will show you how easy it is to provide habitat for pollinators. There will be guidance about plants and bloom types that are favorable for pollinators and their larval stages. We’ll educate you about gardening practices that will provide nesting and overwintering opportunities for these struggling insects as well. You’ll learn how your small additions can add to the patchwork of habitat that runs up and down the state of IL on the Route 66 Monarch Flyway.

Darien Garden Club will be sharing pollinator friendly flower seeds, butterfly host plant seed and a variety of pollinator plants will be available for a donation. We want to make it easy for YOU to add habitat to your garden.

Also during this event Master Naturalists from Jurica-Suchy Nature Museum will be on hand to provide information on native pollinators and their unique importance to all life.

There will be fun activities for the kids, giveaways, and take-home information.

Join the fun as we go on a pollinator safari around the IPPL grounds. We will look for local pollinators up close. We'll help you use community science apps such as iNaturalist to identify and learn about your observations meanwhile adding data to support science globally.

Our friendly garden club members will be on hand to help you with your questions and to help you enjoy the afternoon.

NOTE: Program is held inside in case of weather issues.

At 2pm we are offering an educational presentation.

Running concurrently with our exhibits and activities you can attend a presentation, “Mimics & Assassin (Bugs): What is That Odd Insect in Your Garden?” in Keshav Sanghani 's Meeting Room. Help us welcome our speaker, Karly Tumminello, Director of the Jurica-Suchy Nature Museum and Darien Garden Club member. Karly will share her knowledge about all types of interesting bugs that visit flowers! This amazing presentation will be immediately followed by a Q & A session.

Space is limited for the presentation, be sure to register to attend the presentation here

Registration is not required for the walk-up event. Tickets on Eventbrite are FREE and will ensure that you’ll receive reminders to attend so that you will not miss this event.
