Darien Man Charged With Domestic Battery, Still Faces DUI Count (patch.com) — Darien residents are being informed about a recent domestic battery arrest of a local man on Western Avenue, who also has an unresolved DUI case from January. Police also report two thefts in town, including a high-value Kubota utility vehicle at a construction site and a missing tire and rim on Hinswood Drive.
2. 'Real Difficult': Darien Priests' Home Approved, With 1 Official Dissenting (patch.com) — Darien aldermen have approved a special-use permit allowing the Society of Mount Carmel to use a Tara Hill house as a residence for priests, despite some neighbors’ concerns about transients and tax exemption. The council limited the home’s use to residential only, with one alderman voting no after a split recommendation from the Plan Commission.
3. Faster Darien Internet? A 3rd Firm Steps Forward (patch.com) — Darien aldermen have approved an agreement with Ezee Fiber, a third company seeking to build a citywide fiber-optic network after Metronet delays and Lumos largely stalled its rollout. Residents can expect more front-yard construction, especially in areas not yet served, with the promise of faster internet, no contracts, and potentially live service a few months after installation.
4. Darien Coop Had Loud Rooster, But No More: City (patch.com) — Darien’s City Council has granted a Tara Hill resident an exception to the usual requirement for fencing an entire backyard, allowing a more limited fence around a chicken coop that previously drew complaints about a loud rooster and poor upkeep. Officials say conditions have improved, but they’re weighing a similar request from another nearby resident whose neighbors are divided.
