• Darien Flood Work Won't Hurt Willowbrook Residents: Official (patch.com) — Darien officials are pursuing a $600,000 federal grant to help fund a $1.2 million flood mitigation project along Gail and Linden avenues, aiming to better manage stormwater in nearby neighborhoods and Lindenwood Park. While some Willowbrook residents fear the work could worsen Sawmill Creek flooding, Darien's public works director says the plan will not increase risk to homes east of the city, and the council has unanimously backed the grant application.
• 'Disappointed': Darien Environmental Panel Axed After 39 Years (patch.com) — Darien residents are seeing the end of a 39-year tradition as the City Council unanimously votes to dissolve its Environmental Committee, citing more complex issues and the need for professional input. Despite a late push from a former member and disappointment from Alderman Eric Gustafson, officials say the panel struggled with quorums, timeliness, and progress, while other local groups now handle some environmental efforts.
• Darien Getting Chicago Restaurant Favorite, Replacing Cheesesteak Spot (patch.com) — A longtime Chicago favorite, Mini Hut Chicken, is opening a new location in Darien at 7517 S. Cass Ave., replacing the recently closed Charleys Cheesesteaks in the strip mall with Starbucks and Nothing Bundt Cakes. The revived restaurant, known for its "butter crust chicken," will also offer hot dogs and beef, giving Darien residents another nearby option for casual comfort food.
