DARIEN, IL – Darien police and the DuPage County coroner have identified human remains found in a local neighborhood, Darien police announced Wednesday.

They were identified as those of Scott D. Svencner, 60, who lived in the 1000 block of 79th Street, police said. The remains were discovered in June a block away from Svencner's house, in the 7800 block of Brookhaven Avenue, police said.

Detectives do not suspect foul play, and the cause of death could not be determined, police said.

Darien police said they extended their deepest sympathies to the Svencner family and loved ones.

Svencner went missing in November 2022, last seen the day after Thanksgiving, police said. He was said to be walking away from his house.

At the time, police said they did not believe Svencner had access to bank accounts or credit cards. He also did not take his phone or any personal property, police said.

"We've checked with jails, morgues, hospitals, etc. No John Does," Police Chief Greg Thomas told Patch in an email at the time.

Svencner was a registered sex offender.
