ComEd Delay Frustrating Darien Officials
A streetlight was put up a month ago. Now, ComEd needs to act, according to the city. ComEd said it has done its part of the work.

DARIEN, IL – Darien put up a new streetlight a month ago, but ComEd has not done its part, officials said this week.
"It is all set to go," Ward 1 Alderman Ted Schauer said in an email to Patch. "The issue is that ComEd has not provided the power to the light."
The light is at Hinswood Drive and Frontage Road, east of Cass Avenue. It was installed as soon as the ground thawed, Schauer said.

At last Monday's City Council meeting, Schauer brought up the light.
In response, Dan Gombac, the city's top public works official, said, "Hopefully, the press picks it up and says, 'ComEd, where's the light at?'"

Schauer said a story may help speed up the light being turned on.
On Monday, ComEd spokesperson John Schoen said ComEd completed its work to "liven the streetlight on April 1 and worked in conjunction with the City of Darien on their portion of the work so the streetlight could be interconnected."
"The streetlight is now livened. We appreciate the collaboration with the City," he said.
This is not the first time that ComEd has frustrated Darien officials.
In 2023, ComEd explained the delays in doing its part of the job to get a traffic light up and running at 67th Street and Clarendon Hills Road.
Gombac expressed his concern about it for two council meetings in a row.
