Darien Business Seeking Beer, Wine License From City
Without one, the business said it was being put at a competitive disadvantage.
DARIEN, IL – A Darien gas station is seeking a beer and wine license, saying it wants to join the other stations in town.
On Monday, the Darien City Council is set to take up the issue at the 76 gas station at 402 Plainfield Road.
"Every gas station in town currently holds a liquor license except for ours, placing us at a competitive disadvantage," the owner, Go 2 Market Management, said in a recent letter to the council.

The company said the liquor license would increase the city's sales tax income.
"Our family owns and operates three additional liquor stores and three gas stations holding liquor and beer licenses," the firm said. "We fully understand the value and responsibility associated with a liquor license and have a substantial investment at stake, ensuring a strong and ongoing commitment to compliance and responsible operation."

According to a city memo, the company has reinvested in the gas station, formerly a Citgo, completing facade enhancements, installing new signs and addressing longstanding site issues.
The upgrades, the city said, have materially improved the appearance and condition from that of the previous owners.
The memo said Mayor Joseph Marchese, the city's liquor commissioner, supports the request.
Earlier this week, the council's Municipal Services Committee unanimously approved it.
Technically, the City Council is being asked to increase the number of beer and wine licenses to allow the 76 station to get a license.
