DARIEN, IL – A Darien officer reported seeing a one-wheeled, speeding motorcyclist late the night of Aug. 26, police said.

The man, identified as 40-year-old Lukas Petravicius of Willowbrook, was going 98 mph in a 40 mph zone when the officer tried to stop him, authorities said.

The officer, who was headed north, made a U-turn and then pulled up next to Petravicius, turning on his emergency lights.

Petravicius tried to get away, but lost control and struck the officer's passenger side. The biker then got stuck, police said.

Four times, the officer ordered Petravicius to get off his motorcycle. When Petravicius did not, the officer pushed him off, causing the suspect to fall to the ground, according to the report.

The officer asked Petravicius several times to put his hands behind his back to be handcuffed before the suspect finally did, police said.

Petravicius, who primarily speaks Lithuanian, told the officer his girlfriend left her phone at his house, so he was in a hurry to drop it off at her home in Homer Glen, police said.

Officers reported Petravicius had a strong odor of alcohol and that his eyes were red and glassy. He told officers he had two Coronas before 9 p.m.

It was his fourth DUI, police said. His license was suspended because of a previous DUI charge.

At first, Petravicius refused to take a breath test. Two hours later, he did, and it was .085, higher than the legal limit of .08, police said.

Petravicius was charged with aggravated DUI, speeding 35 mph or more over the speed limit, having no insurance, driving on a suspended license, having expired plates, improperly using lanes, failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident and driving a motorcycle on one wheel.

Petravicius was also wanted on a DuPage County warrant charging failure to appear in court.
