Darien Cops Get 7 Complaints In 2025
One of the complaints was found to have been true, the department's annual report said.

DARIEN, IL – The Darien Police Department received seven civilian complaints in 2025, six of which were determined to be unfounded, according to the agency's annual report.
In one case, Darien police found that the alleged acts were alleged to have occurred, the report said. The officer was given a written reprimand.
"One thing we don't shy away from is discipline, making sure that officers in the Darien Police Department are working within the Constitution and working within good moral and ethical issues," Police Greg Thomas said during Monday's City Council meeting.

In 2024, the department received six complaints, all of which were determined to be unfounded.
Last year, Darien officers used force in 21 incidents, all of which were in accordance with department policies and the law, according to the annual report.

In two cases, officers pointed Tasers at suspects, but did not deploy them, police said. No instances involving guns were listed in the report.
"There are several reasons for using force, including making an arrest, preventing an escape, defending another, defending oneself and preventing a violent crime," the report said.
