Darien Cops Called To Barricaded Person

Police asked nearby residents to remain indoors while they resolved the problem.

DARIEN, IL – Darien police responded on Thursday afternoon to a barricaded person in a local neighborhood.

The person, who was in the 1000 block of Janet Avenue, was suffering from a mental health crisis, police said.

In a news release Friday, police said they had issued an alert asking nearby residents to remain indoors while officers worked to resolve the problem. This was done out of an abundance of caution, police said.

Local schools were also notified as a precautionary measure.

The problem was contained to the house, with no threat to the surrounding area, police said.

It was resolved peacefully, with the person taken into protective custody, police said. No criminal charges have been filed at this point, according to the news release.

The police department said it received help from the DuPage County Sheriff's Office and a multi-agency DuPage County task force known as MERIT.

Also assisting were police departments from Lisle, Downers Grove, Woodridge and Westmont.
