Darien Crime Levels Drop Slightly In 2025

The city saw significant decreases in some categories, according to police statistics.

DARIEN, IL – Both violent and property crime fell slightly last year in Darien.

In 2025, the police department received 137 reports of violent crimes, down by two from a year earlier, according to the agency's annual report, which was released late last week.

In that time, no local murders, human trafficking or kidnappings were reported. Police received four reports of forcible rapes.

As for property crime, officers took 353 reports last year, down from 401 in 2024, a 12 percent decrease.

In particular, theft from cars dropped to 19, from 36 in 2024 and 47 in 2023. Meanwhile, retail theft reports declined to 54, from 68 a year earlier.

Crashes went up slightly last year, but none were fatal. They plunged to 278 during the pandemic year of 2020, but have risen since. In 2025, crashes numbered 376, still below pre-pandemic levels.

In the annual report, the police department said efficiency increased.

"Supervisors were issued individual laptops to seamlessly move from in-house administrative tasks to addressing the community's needs out on patrol," the report said.
