Darien Fire: 'Careless' Fireworks Use May Be Cause
Firefighters respond to a fire in a local neighborhood. Damage was estimated in the thousands.
DARIEN, IL – A fire in a Darien neighborhood appears to be the result of the "careless" use of fireworks, a fire official said Thursday.
In a statement to Patch, Deputy Chief Patrick Brenn of the Tri-State Fire Protection District said the fire was still under investigation, but appears to be "accidental due to the fireworks."
The fire occurred Wednesday night at 7319 Darien Lane, according to the Tri-State Fire Protection District.

The fire started on a rear wooden deck and spread up the vinyl siding of the house, Brenn said.
The residents put out most of the fire with two fire extinguishers and a garden hose, Brenn said. Firefighters had one hose line deployed to confirm that it was put out, he said.
