Darien Public Schools District 61 Headlines
Monday, March 23rd will be a non-attendance day for students while teachers plan for e-Learning Tuesday - Friday (March 24-27th).
Dear Darien #61 Students, Parents and Guardians:
First I want to recognize the efforts of our staff and community over the last week and thank you for your dedication, understanding, patience, and hard work as we move through the impact of COVID-19 on our school system and community. I would like to update you on three items: e-Learning, food pick up and Monday’s Board of Education meeting.
First, we will be operating on week two of e-Learning for students. Monday, March 23rd will be a non-attendance day for students while teachers plan for e-Learning Tuesday - Friday (March 24-27th). The building offices will be closed and the office staff will be working remotely. District Office will be staffed from 8 - 3 pm this week.
Spring Break will be from March 30 - April 3, 2020 with no student attendance or e-Learning. During that time we will be continuing to monitor the situation related to school closure and reopening. Once a decision is made we will be communicating that to our staff and community.
Second, Food Service will continue to provide breakfast and lunch for students each day for pick up at Eisenhower Junior High from 8:30 - 11 am daily. Any child is entitled to a breakfast and lunch daily. Our plan is to continue to provide this service over Spring Break; however, the schedule of pick up will be changed and communicated later this week.
Weekend food bags from the Darien Rotary are available for pick up for students at the District Office for anyone between the hours of 8 - 3 pm. The weekend bag contains food for one child for two days.
Finally, the Board meeting scheduled for Monday will be broadcast over ZOOM. In compliance with the revised Open Meeting Act procedures we are providing the link for the community to have access to the meeting. (If the public body proceeds with a meeting, it can do so with any or all of the members accessing and participating in the meeting by remote access—either by telephonic, audio, or audiovisual participation.-per Klein Thorpe & Jenkins Legal Alert).
You are able to join that meeting at the link below; however, we ask that you mute your microphone and turn off your camera if you attend so that the meeting can be conducted appropriately. The Board will allow for audience participation as listed on the agenda.

In closing, I want to wish you all continued health and safety during this unprecedented time for our community. I know that your children are all safe and missing the day to day interactions they usually have in school. Please let them all know that we miss them too and the staff is doing everything we can to make the best of this situation.
Until we are back to the regular schedule, thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Dr. Carlo
Superintendent of Schools
