Darien Sex Offender Accused In Domestic
The man sexually abused a 15-year-old more than two decades ago, according to a state website.

DARIEN, IL – A Darien man who is listed as a sex offender was arrested last week on a charge of domestic battery.
Stanley Kopka, 51, who lives in the 1500 block of Stewart Drive, was taken to the DuPage County Jail, according to a Darien police report.
The incident occurred about 9 p.m. Oct. 10 at Kopka's house , police said.

Kopka's information is in the Illinois sex offender registry. According to the state's website, Kopka was convicted of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a 15-year-old in DeKalb County. He was 28 at the time.
The website states that Kopka lives in Harvard, a town in McHenry County. Sex offenders are required by state law to register when they move to new towns.

Jason Norton, Darien's deputy police chief, responded to Patch's inquiry about Kopka.
"Stanley Kopka was not registered with us as far as I can tell at this point," Norton said in an email. "I will have our detectives follow up on this to determine as to what took place."
He said local detectives need to investigate to determine whether Kopka failed to register as a sex offender in Darien.
According to the state website, Kopka last registered in August 2018.
In May 2020, Cass School District 63 in Darien sent a list of all DuPage County sex offenders to parents.
According to that list, Kopka was living at the time in the 600 block of West 55th Street in Hinsdale.
