After a whirlwind couple of days, Elmhurst Republican Chris Nybo is sworn in as the new the state senator representing the 24th District.

Candidate Chris Nybo became State Sen. Nybo when the Elmhurst Republican took the oath of office representing the 24th District in the Illinois Senate on Wednesday afternoon.

Nybo was appointed by local Republicans to finish out long-time Sen. Kirk Dillard’s term, after Dillard stepped down to become chairman of the RTA. Nybo is running for a full term in the 24th District against Western Springs Democrat Suzanne Glowiak in November.

“It’s a great honor to have been selected to be the new 24th District Senator, and I look forward to representing the constituents in the fine tradition of my predecessor, Senator Kirk Dillard,” Nybo said in a written statement. “Our state is in need of serious leadership and reform. I pledge to be that voice in Springfield.”

The oath of office was administered by DuPage County Circuit Judge Brian McKillip. Also attending the official ceremony was Senate Republican Leader Christine Radogno (R-Lemont), former Sen. Dillard and other local legislators.

Nybo managed to fit in some campaigning, telling the gathered crowd that Illinois is drowning in debt with record-high unemployment, unsustainable pensions, and pervasive corruption, but policymakers can’t quit on the job.

“Too many people are willing to say our state is sunk. I believe Illinois can survive and we can thrive. I love this state and I’m honored to have the ability to serve it again. I will work as hard as I can to get us back on the right track to create jobs, restore our state’s fiscal health and help Illinois become the kind of state we deserve to be,” Nybo said. “I will never give up on the State of Illinois, and I will never give up on you.”

Nybo served one term in the Illinois House and as an Elmhurst City Council alderman. He is a practicing attorney with Much Shelist PC, he assists small and large businesses on a variety of employment-related matters.

Born in Elmhurst, Nybo is a lifelong resident of the western suburbs. He and his wife, Faye, live in Elmhurst with their three children.

The 24th Senate District comprises all or parts of Hinsdale, Clarendon Hills, Willowbrook, Westmont, Darien, Downers Grove, Western Springs, Oak Brook, Oakbrook Terrace, Elmhurst, Lombard, Glen Ellyn, Wheaton and Lisle.
