'Sign Pollution' In Darien? Official Says No
The issue came up after an alderman asked about putting parking signs on a local street.

DARIEN, IL – A Darien official warned against "sign pollution" Monday after an alderman relayed a constituent's concern.
During a City Council meeting, Ward 4 Alderman Tom Chlystek said a constituent told him people are parking in the 7500 block of Farmingdale Drive from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m.
During those hours, on-street parking is prohibited in Darien. The block in question is where the Farmingdale Apartments are.

The resident wanted to know if it was possible to post signs with the parking rule on the street, Chlystek said.
In response, Dan Gombac, the city's municipal services director, said Darien had signs indicating the parking rule on its perimeter. But he recommended against such signs on streets in town, raising the specter of "sign pollution."

"I think it's a matter of police enforcement at this point because a lot of our signs are already at the perimeters of the city coming in," Gombac said.
He also said management at Farmingdale Apartments could let tenants know about the rule.
