DARIEN, IL – Darien has completed a stormwater project in a neighborhood that suffered from drainage problems.

Twelve of 13 residents in the 8000 block of Farmingdale Drive agreed to take part in the project. Each resident paid $700, the city said.

The work involved routing stormwater from backyards to new city infrastructure, said Dan Gombac, the city's municipal services director.

Besides controlling stormwater, the project is also expected to result in less icing on sidewalks during the winter, Gombac said. Before, he said, residents saw a constant flow of water on sidewalks during the winter.

The work was done in-house by a "very talented crew," Gombac said.

At Monday's City Council meeting, Alderman Gerry Leganski, who represents the neighborhood in question, complimented city employees' work.

The fact that 12 of 13 residents participated "just shows you the need that was really there," Leganski said.
