Sunny Patch Project Raising Money To Feed Families
The local group donated more than a ton of fresh vegetables to food insecure families in Darien.

DARIEN, IL — This Thanksgiving, one Darien group is working to continue its mission to provide food for families in need. The Sunny Patch Project is currently raising seed money to help fund its community farm space to continue to grow fresh flowers, fruits, and veggies for food insecure families throughout Darien and the surrounding areas.
The project was founded in spring 2015 and has grown more than two tons of vegetables to help provide families with healthy, locally grown produce. When Sunny Patch launched, it nurtured a container garden in Safety Village with the help of soil donations and compost donations from local businesses.
Since then, they've grown exponentially, harvesting more than a ton of food in the 2017 season.

Much of Sunny Patch Project's work has been through partnerships with local residents who share surplus food from their own gardens, according to the project's website.
Sunny Patch hopes to continue its growth and ensure that "hunger has no place here in Darien."
