Theft Suspects Met By Oak Brook Cops: Prosecutors

The men worked in tandem with one stealing and the other serving as a lookout, police said.

OAK BROOK, IL – Two Venezuelan men were arrested last week after working in tandem to steal clothing and other items from an Oak Brook store, authorities said.

Edys Alberto Herrera-Gotopo, 20, and Johan Gavidia-Rojas, 18, who are living in Chicago, were charged with felony retail theft, police said.

In the early evening Friday, the men entered Macy's holding empty bags, according to a news release from DuPage County prosecutors.

One man put items in a bag as the other served as a lookout and then they would switch roles, police said.

When they left the store, they were met by Oak Brook police officers. Herrera-Gotopo was arrested without any problems, while Gavidia-Rojas ran away but was caught shortly after, police said.

The stolen items were valued at $665, police said.

DuPage County Judge Anne Therieau denied prosecutors' request to jail the men before their trial. They were released.
