DARIEN, IL – It's been nearly two years since DuPage County released a study for proposed improvements on Cass Avenue near Interstate 55 and South Frontage Road.

Nothing much has happened as a result, an official said Monday.

"Clearly, they're needing cooperation from the Illinois Department of Transportation," Alderwoman Mary Sullivan said at a City Council meeting.

Over the years, major crashes have occurred at Cass and South Frontage.

At a City Council meeting, Alderwoman Mary Sullivan said she heard recently from residents near the intersection in question.

She said she then reached out to a couple of County Board members, who connected her to a DuPage County Department of Transportation official. The city set up a conference call with the official for this week.

"What do we need to do as a community to support our residents and perhaps engage (with the state Department of Transportation)," Sullivan said.

She said the city has been successful with the state agency in the past, "but that's always like rolling the dice."

"I just wanted to assure the residents that we're pursuing this," Sullivan said. "We heard them, and we'll hopefully be reporting back soon."

In the nearly 2-year-old study, a consultant recommended roundabouts or a traffic signal to improve traffic flow along Cass near I-55.
