What To Do With This Key Darien Corner?
A committee talked about a restaurant or retail on the site, but the neighbors disagreed, officials said.

DARIEN, IL – Darien is taking a look at possibilities for a property next to a major intersection in town.
The site in question is at the southeast corner of Plainfield and Clarendon Hills roads, across from Indian Prairie Public Library.
On the northeast corner is the "political triangle," which Patch wrote about earlier this week.

The city considers both spots "key development" parcels.
In August, members of the city's Economic Development Committee spoke about the southeast corner, otherwise known as the Chinoy property. They noted its closeness to the library, Hinsdale South High and Community Park.

Their discussion also included the vacant lots south and east of the site.
According to meeting minutes, members said the site could be used for natural habitat and community signage.
They said it also could be used for a restaurant, retail or residences.
At this week's Darien City Council meeting, Mayor Joseph Marchese said neighbors indicated they wanted no retail or commercial development on the site. He said they believed it would ruin their area.
"That would actually be a nicer area in terms of redevelopment as a park or a playground," the mayor said.
In an interview Wednesday, City Administrator Bryon Vana said the city identifies key properties in its long-term plan for development. Part of the three lots in question is a floodplain, Vana said.
At the council meeting, Alderman Lester Vaughan, who represents the neighborhood, said the house in question was in bad shape.
