2-Day Deerfield Winter Celebration Kicks Off Holiday Season

DEERFIELD, IL — The holiday season in Deerfield is kicking off in earnest this weekend with a two-day winter celebration at a variety of locations around town. Enjoy family-friendly festivities like carriage rides, a live ice sculpting show, holiday performances and more. On Friday evening, events are centered around the front lawn of Village Hall, while Saturday's midday plans mostly take place at Deerfield Square.

Friday, Dec. 1, 5-9 p.m.

Some of the highlights of Friday evening's festivities include roasted chestnuts, a two-hour live ice sculpting show and rides on horse-drawn carriages starting from Village Hall, 850 Waukegan Rd. Inside the Village Hall lobby, live holiday performances from the Deerfield High School Choraliers, The Caroling Party – carolers wearing Victorian-era costumes – and The Hurricane Saxophone Quartet, of Deerfield. There will also be free treats, including cookies from the Patty Turner Center, hot cider/chocolate and popcorn from the Deerfield BP and soup and bagels with cream cheese from Upper Crust Bagels.

Starting at 11 a.m. there will be rides on ponies and horse-drawn carriages at Forrest Plaza at The Shops at Deerfield Square. Carriage tours will stop at Village Centre Plaza for photos with “Those Funny Little People,” holiday-costumed mascots, and a winter-themed photo booth. Get in the holiday spirit with a handbell performance by the Chicago Bronze Breve Ensemble, or pick up a tree at Jewett Park from the Optimist Club. Come out to enjoy model trains at the library, storytime at Barnes & Noble, visits with Santa and dreidel games at Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Koenig Rubloff Realty Group, among other fun events.
