2 New Restaurants Approved In Deerfield Square

DEERFIELD, IL — Deerfield trustees voted unanimously to approve special use permits for three new restarants and a residential development for seniors at its board meeting this week. At its regular meeting Monday, the Deerfield Village Board also provided positive signals to two more applicants looking to start up local business, including a barbecue restaurant and a new business in the former Deerfield Animal Hospital, the Deerfield Review reports.

The restaurants are set to operate out of a planned building on the north side of the Deerfield Square shopping center on the former site of Biaggi's Ristorante Italiano. The developers said they hope to start digging before the ground freezes, according to Pioneer Press.

The new eateries will be a full-service Mexican concept called Bartaco and a soup, salad and sandwich spot, Cafe Zupas. There will be room in the building for a third tenant when the building opens, a vice president of the site's owner has said.

The board also gave final approval to CJE Senior Life's planned 240-unit, six-story residential facility. It will be built south of the intersection of Lake Cook and Wilmot roads and is expected to be operational in 2019.

Now that the applications for City Barbeque and the Deerfield Animal Care Center have been introduced, trustees can give then final approval at its Dec. 18 meeting.

The restaurant, currently under construction, hopes to open up inside a building inside the Deerbrook Shopping Center in March, while a partner in the animal care center – which intends to offer veterinary services, boarding, dog day care and pet grooming – told the paper it will open late next year at 150 Waukegan Rd.
