40 Speeding Citations Issued During Labor Day Campaign: Sheriff

Three impaired drivers were arrested and there were 24 seatbelt violations during the campaign from Aug. 20 through Sept. 7.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested three impaired drivers and issued 24 seatbelt citations during the Labor Day Traffic Safety Campaign. Additionally, 40 speeding citations were issued along with four arrests for those driving with a suspended driver’s license, according to a news release.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office joined with more than 200 other local law enforcement agencies Aug. 20 through Sept. 7 to apprehend drunk and drugged drivers, while encouraging seatbelt use. The effort featured high-visibility enforcement combined with a variety of outreach activities, including a media campaign.

The Labor Day “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign is funded by federal traffic safety funds from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and administered through the Illinois Department of Transportation.
