Alcohol, Tobacco Stings Nail Employees: Riverwoods PD Blotter

Police used an underage operative at one establishment and were conducting alcohol sales compliance checks.

RIVERWOODS, IL — The following information comes from the Riverwoods Police Department and court records as a record of police activity, including incidents reported by the public and those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court.

DRIVING WHILE LICENSE REVOKED/SUSPENDED

  • Erik Esparza-Velazquez, 36, of the 0-100 block of N. Lewis Avenue, Waukegan, is accused of driving while license revoked, suspended registration, and had three outstanding arrest warrants (two from Cook County, one from Lake County), and was arrested at 4:50 p.m. Oct. 20, near Milwaukee Avenue and Deerfield Road. He was released on a personal recognizance bond for the traffic violations and assigned a court date of Dec. 7. Esparza-Velazquez did not post bond for the warrants and was taken to the Lake County Jail to await a bond hearing.
  • Chantel A. Cherry, 22, of the 4200 block of White Pine Lane, Zion, is accused of driving while license revoked, expired registration, had a warrant out of Lake County for an outstanding failure to appear, and was arrested at 12:06 p.m. Sept. 6, near Milwaukee Avenue and Deerfield Road. Cherry was released on a personal recognizance bond for the traffic violations and was assigned a court date of Oct. 5. Cherry was unable to post bond on the warrant and was taken to Lake County Jail for a bond hearing.

POSSESSION OF A STOLEN MOTOR VEHICLE

Cassiopia L. Stewart, 34, of the 4500 block of Opal Drive, Schaumburg, is accused of speeding, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, and was arrested at 10:54 p.m. Oct. 21, near Lake Cook and Portwine roads. She was processed and taken to Lake County Jail for a bond hearing on Oct. 22.

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE

  • Jovanka Garcia, 34, of the 37200 block of N. Grandwood Drive, Gurnee, is accused of speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol, and was arrested at 3:48 a.m. Oct. 23, near Lake Cook and Portwine roads. She was released on a $3,000 bond and was assigned a court date of Nov. 23.
  • Ramiro Gonzalez-Velasco, 29, of the 42000 block of N. Beachview Drive, Antioch, is accused of speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol, and was arrested at 1:45 a.m. Oct. 16, near Lake Cook and Portwine roads. He was released on a $3,000 bond and was assigned a court date of Nov. 9.
  • Jin Woo Park, 48, of the 800 block of Swallow Road, Deerfield, is accused of improper lane usage, speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol, and was arrested at 8:20 p.m. Oct. 16, after police stopped his vehicle near Milwaukee Avenue and Johnson Drive. He was released on a $3,000 bond and was assigned a court date of Nov. 9.
  • Christian Anthony Poeppel, 31, of the 1600 block of W. Belmont Avenue, Chicago, is accused of speeding, driving while license suspended, driving under the influence of alcohol, and was arrested at 12:41 a.m. Oct. 8, after police stopped a vehicle near Lake Cook and Portwine roads. He was released on a $3,000 bond and was assigned a court date of Nov. 9.
  • Deveon Dlee Mitchell, 23, of the 1400 block of E. 55th Place, Chicago, is accused of speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol, and was arrested at 12:23 a.m. Oct. 10, after police stopped a vehicle near Milwaukee Avenue and Chicory Lane. He was released on a $3,000 bond and was assigned a court date of Nov. 9.

UNLAWFUL SALE OF A TOBACCO PRODUCT TO A MINOR

A 33-year-old Crystal Lake resident was cited for unlawful sale of a tobacco product to a minor following police use of an underage operative at Smoke Shop Pipes and Stuff, 2000 block of Milwaukee Avenue, where she is employed. She is scheduled to appear at an administrative hearing on Dec. 15.

UNLAWFUL SALE OF ALCOHOL TO A MINOR

  • A 40-year-old Schaumburg resident, employed at Tandoor Curry Hotspot, 1100 block of Milwaukee Avenue, was cited at 5:20 p.m. Oct. 18, for unlawful sale of alcohol to a minor. Police were conducting an alcohol sales compliance check at the establishment. He is scheduled to appear at an administrative hearing on Dec. 15.
  • A 54-year-old Glenview resident, employed at Kogii Kogii, 1100 block of Milwaukee Avenue, was cited for unlawful sale of alcohol to a minor. Police were conducting an alcohol sales compliance check at the establishment. She is scheduled to appear at an administrative hearing on Dec. 15.

INCIDENTS

ATTEMPTED RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY

Police responded at 2:55 p.m. Oct. 7, to a report of an attempted residential burglary in the 700 block of Juneberry Lane. The resident reported that approximately five minutes prior, three unknown subjects, who had previously knocked, attempted to break in the front door before they fled the area upon realizing the house was occupied. The incident is under further investigation.

BURGLARY

Police responded to a burglar alarm at 6:10 a.m. Sept. 25, at a Mobil Gas Station, located at Deerfield and Saunders roads, and discovered a broken front window. Security video footage revealed that multiple suspects had entered and exited the building through the window and fled south on Saunders Rd prior to the officer’s arrival on scene. The incident is under investigation.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY

Police responded at 4:24 p.m. Sept. 30, to a report of a residential burglary in the 1000 block of Portwine Road. At some time between 3:55 p.m. and 4:24 p.m., someone made entry to the home while the residents were away and removed jewelry.
