Man Steals Cellphone With $100 In Case: Riverwoods PD Blotter

Police said the cell phone was later recovered after being discarded, but the cash was missing.

RIVERWOODS, IL — The following information comes from the Riverwoods Police Department and court records as a record of police activity, including incidents reported by the public and those arrested by police. Ziyang Mao, 27, of the 100 block of N. East River Road, Des Plaines, is accused of improper lane usage, driving under the influence of alcohol, and was arrested at 1:50 a.m. Aug. 21, near Lake Cook and Portwine roads. He was released on a $3,000 personal recognizance bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 14.

INCIDENTS

BURGLARY

Police responded at 5:22 p.m. Aug. 18, to a burglary in progress in the 1900 block of Strenger Lane. A resident returning home to find a Silver SUV parked in the driveway. A masked subject was seen getting into the car and fled northbound. Responding officers found forced entry and evidence that the home had been gone through. It was unknown what had been taken at report time. An investigation was ongoing at the time of the report.

THEFT

Police responded at 4:54 p.m. Aug. 20 to a report of a theft at a business in the 2100 block of Deerfield Road. At 9:47 a.m. that morning, a male removed a cell phone from a counter in the business that contained $100 in the case. The cell phone was later recovered after being discarded, but the cash was missing.
