BANNOCKBURN, IL — Chicago Stars FC will head west for part of its 2027 preseason, joining a field of professional soccer clubs at the Coachella Valley Invitational in California.
The club announced Wednesday it will make its tournament debut Jan. 30 at the Empire Polo Club in Indio. The event runs through Feb. 13, with a full schedule of opponents and match times to be announced.
The preseason trip comes ahead of another year on the North Shore. The Stars previously announced that all 15 of their 2027 National Women's Soccer League home matches will be played at Northwestern University's Martin Stadium in Evanston.
The club also announced plans earlier this year for a performance center in Bannockburn, with an anticipated opening in 2027. The planned 10-acre site will serve as the hub for team operations and include two full-size soccer fields, a goalkeeper-specific field and a 45,000-square-foot building with training and recovery spaces.
Eight NWSL Clubs Committed
The Stars are among eight NWSL clubs currently committed to the invitational, alongside Angel City FC, Bay FC, Denver Summit FC, Kansas City Current, San Diego Wave FC, Seattle Reign FC and Utah Royals FC.
Another 11 Major League Soccer clubs are committed: Austin FC, Charlotte FC, D.C. United, LAFC, LA Galaxy, Minnesota United FC, Portland Timbers, San Diego FC, San Jose Earthquakes, St. Louis City SC and Toronto FC.
The sixth annual event will bring together nearly half of the clubs from the two leagues, creating what the Stars described as the largest preseason gathering in North American professional soccer.
NWSL matches are scheduled for Jan. 30 and Feb. 6. MLS matches are scheduled for Feb. 6, 7, 10 and 13. Chicago's opponents have not yet been announced.
