Baxter International to Lay Off Employees

The Deerfield-based health care company confirmed "reductions" are part of a larger restructuring plan.

DEERFIELD, IL - Deerfield-based Baxter International plans to layoff several of its employees around the world.

The health care company has spent or set aside $101 million recently for severance packages and other benefits for the laid off employees, according to a Chicago Tribune report. The layoffs are a part of a larger restructuring plan.

“Reductions” are occurring in more than 40 countries, a company spokesperson said. Baxter has more than 4.5000 employees in Illinois alone.

The layoff plan is expected to save the company more than $100 million in the long-term.
