Check Thief Charged With 5 Felonies: Riverwoods PD Blotter

A local business was hit with losses in excess of $21,000 following the crime, according to police.

RIVERWOODS, IL — The following information comes from the Riverwoods Police Department and court records as a record of police activity, including incidents reported by the public and those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court.

Every person arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

  • Michelle Anne Roberts, 34, of the 200 block of Cardinal Way, Island Lake, is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, speeding, and was arrested at 2:08 a.m. April 20, near Milwaukee Avenue and Chicory Lane. She was released on a $3,000 personal recognizance bond and is scheduled to appear at the Lake County Courthouse in Waukegan on May 24.
  • Gregory L. Bennett, 41, of the 300 block of Farmington Lane, Vernon Hills, is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, speeding, and was arrested at 11:49 p.m. March 31, near Deerfield and Thornmeadow roads. He was released on a $3,000 personal recognizance bond and was due in court on April 26.
  • Apolinarsanchez Linares, 59, of the 200000 block of N. Birch Street, Deerfield, is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, open transportation of alcohol, and was arrested at 11:01 p.m. April 1, at Milwaukee Avenue and Deerfield Road. He was released on a $3,000 personal recognizance bond and was scheduled to appear in court on April 26.

FINANCIAL CRIME

Stanley Washington, 32, of the 200 block of West Raye Drive, Chicago Heights, had a warrant out of Riverwoods for five felony offenses in relation to part of a financial crime involving the theft of checks from a Riverwoods business, reported in October 2020. He was arrested at 9:30 p.m. April 13, by the Chicago Heights Police Department. According to police, the stolen checks were forged and deposited into accounts held by Washington, and another in the state of Kentucky, with a loss to the business in excess of $21,000. Washington was taken to the Cook County Jail in Chicago pending his transfer to the Lake County Jail in Waukegan for a bond hearing.

Michelle Alexis Celorio-Llamas, 31, of the 1100 block of Deerfield Road, Deerfield, had a warrant from the Lake County Sheriff's Office for retail theft and criminal trespassing. She was arrested at 8:57 p.m. April 17, in a yard near Baneberry and Chicory lanes. She was taken to the Lake County Jail.

THEFT

Pedro Santiago, 53, of the 1700 block of W. Touhy Avenue, Chicago, turned himself in at 8 p.m. April 4, after an investigation identified him as the offender who stole a bank bag from a female, who was shopping at a business near Milwaukee Ave and Deerfield Rd on March 28. He was released on a $2,500 personal recognizance bond and is scheduled to appear in court on May 9.
