Congregational Church in Deerfield Will Close

Longtime Wilmot Road congregation will not continue after the church was sold to developers.

The Congregational Church in Deerfield will dissolve following a secret ballot vote from members of its congregation.

The congregation voted 17-5 to close during a worship service last Sunday, according to the Deerfield Review. The property which holds the church at 225 Wilmot Rd. has been sold to developers Josh Silverglade and Ken Andre, who will demolish the church and build eight residential homes in its spot.

“We gather in this place, where we lift our hearts and better our souls,” said Rev. Susan Martersteck during the service leading up to the vote to dissolve. The church was established in 1960, and began holding services at the Wilmot Road location five years later.
