Next week I’m holding virtual events in the District to stay in touch with you and our shared priorities for our community; though I am effectively “on call,” ready to return to Washington on 24 hours’ notice as soon as the Senate, House and President settle on a new Covid-19-relief package.

Our events next week will tackle the 100th anniversary of the Nineteenth Amendment, lowering the cost of prescription drugs, and childcare in the pandemic.

From the gender pay gap to the second shift and the fight for racial equality, there is a strong need for federal action. Hear from a panel of experts and learn about the status of legislative action in the House of Representatives.

With the cost of prescriptions ever increasing, the House of Representatives took action by passing H.R. 3 “Elijah E. Cummings Lower Drug Costs Now Act.” This panel discussion will feature patient stories about the devastating impact of high drug prices, and what Congress is doing to stop this.

The pandemic has changed so much in our lives and made parents the ultimate multitaskers. On this program, we will help parents out by providing free educational resources to use at home. Presentations will be made by the Library of Congress, Smithsonian Institution and Grayslake Public Library. It will include an update on bills the House has passed to make child care more affordable and accessible for working families during the pandemic.
