D-113 Votes Against 109's Petition to Withdraw From Special Ed. District

Worries about students' transition to high school and whether 109 could hold up its financial duty cited as concerns.

Deerfield School District 109 will have to take its petition to withdraw from the Northern Suburban Special Education District to the State Board of Education now that they have failed to receive unanimous support from the other 17 districts in the cooperative.

Township High School District 113 voted last week not to support the withdrawal request citing certainties about unfunded pension liabilities and worries about students making the transition into high school, according to the Highland Park News.

District 109 wants to pull out of the cooperative because its elementary school system serves the majority of special education students in its own programs.
