Deerfield Library Board Seeks Trustee To Fill Vacancy Until May 2027
Applicants must live in incorporated Deerfield and apply by April 10.

DEERFIELD, IL — The Deerfield Public Library Board of Trustees is seeking a candidate to fill a vacancy on the library board, with the selected applicant set to serve until the next regular election in May 2027.
According to the library board announcement, trustees must be residents of incorporated Deerfield. The board has seven members, and the trustee role requires an average commitment of four to six hours per month. Regular board meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m.
The board said trustees are responsible for financial oversight, including adopting a tax levy and annual budget that meets the library’s financial needs. Other duties include hiring a qualified library director and providing ongoing evaluation, adopting formal policies that govern the library and ensuring the library has a strategic plan with an action plan and timeline.

The announcement also states that trustees advocate for the library in the community and with elected officials. Additional responsibilities include knowing the community and its library needs, keeping current on library standards and trends, supporting staff and the director in carrying out library services, participating in library programs and events and supporting library legislation in Illinois and the federal government.
Applications must be submitted through the online form by April 10. According to the announcement, the board will review applications and schedule interviews in May 2026.
