Deerfield Native Earns Master's Degree With Her Husband
Dana Jocic Burris walked across the stage at National Louis University this spring with someone special, and it wasn't the first time.

A Deerfield native now residing in Norwood Park earned her Master’s degree alongside someone pretty special this spring. Her husband.
Dana Jocic Burris received her master’s degree in education from National Louis University, as did her husband, Robert Burris.

Dana, originally from Deerfield and Riverwoods, said it was “nice having someone understand what you’re going through,” citing an example of not being able to talk because “you were up late studying or writing a paper,”
“We were both working at the time we were going to school, so we needed the extra support,” she said.

Graduating with your soul mate is nothing new to the couple, who also walked together during commencement when they both received their bachelor’s degrees at another university.

Dana student taught at the Dr. Martin Luther King Literary and Fine Arts School in Evanston/Skokie School District 65.
She has since filled in for a maternity leave, and hopes to be working full-time come September.
