Deerfield Residents Help Raise Record Funds At Dyslexia Advocacy Event
Emmy-nominated actor Ameer Baraka headlined the record-breaking event dedicated to improving literacy outcomes for all students.

CHICAGO — Supporters, including those from Deerfield, gathered last month at the University Club of Chicago for an annual fundraiser held by Everyone Reading Illinois. The event focuses on advancing literacy and raising awareness regarding dyslexia.
Attendees heard an address from Emmy-nominated actor and author Ameer Baraka, who shared his personal journey of discovering his dyslexia while incarcerated. He also discussed learning to read as an adult during the presentation. The event highlighted the life-changing impact of effective literacy instruction for students and adults alike.

According to the organization, the evening was a record-breaking night for the non-profit group. Proceeds from the fundraiser will support the ongoing advocacy work of Everyone Reading Illinois. The funds are also designated for educator training and the development of family resources, as well as public awareness efforts.
