A 16-year-old boy fled the Riverwoods police station and stole a nearby parked car before he was taken into custody again, police said.

RIVERWOODS, IL — A 16-year-old Chicago boy ran out of the Riverwoods Police Department Wednesday and stole a car from a nearby golf course before he was taken into custody again following a brief pursuit, police said.
Around 4 p.m., the teen escaped out the door of the police station at 845 Sanders Road and fled about a half-mile north, where he found a vehicle had been left unlocked in a country club parking lot with the keys inside about 20 minutes later, according to police.

After establishing a perimeter in the area, officers found the stolen GMC Yukon Denali SUV on Half Day Road in Lincolnshire and followed it to the Edens Spur in Northbrook, according to a Lake and McHenry County Scanner report. The SUV was halted using the OnStar security service, and the teen took off running.
