DHS Field Hockey Off to Solid Start

Returning all but four players from last season’s team has translated to early season success for the Deerfield High School Field Hockey Team.

The Warriors, who have 13 seniors on this year’s roster, are off to a 2-0 start after a rebuilding year in 2014.

“We are having a great start to our season,” said Head Coach Samantha Brown.

Leah Shulman leads the Warriors in scoring so far with two goals and an assist. Jessica Goldman has also netted a goal during the first two games.

In addition to Shulman and Goldman, Ford says players to watch for are Audrey Napp, Dani Brockstein, Rosie Brodsky, Megan Rudd, Jess Sternberg and Caylee Silvers.

Rising sophomores include Lex Verb, Kate Shimamoto and McKenna Vranicar, according to the coach.

“We are looking to continue our winning streak,” Brown added ahead of the team’s participation in the Gateway Classic tournament in St. Louis this weekend.
