DHS Warriors Football Team Hopes for Health in 2015

Johnny Fisher, a 1,000+ runner in 2014, is back to jump start the Warriors' offense.

Head Coach Steve Winiecki’s 17th season at the helm of the Deerfield High School football program could hinge on the health of his players.

“The last few years, our non-conference schedule has been a meat grinder. We’ve just gotten beaten up,” Winiecki told the Deerfield Review.

Lately, the Warriors have missed the IHSA playoffs more often than they have qualified, including last season, when they finished 4-5 overall but had a 3-2 mark in the Central Suburban North conference.

In 2015, Deerfield is expected to be led by quarterback Brian Ranallo, who passed for 370 yards in limited play last year and running back Johnny Fisher, who rushed for more than 1,000 and scored 21 touchdowns.

“With 37 varsity players, keeping every able body healthy will again be essential,” according to a preview by the Review. “Having Brian Ranallo and Johnny Fisher back as the two primary ball handlers in the option attack is one reason to believe Deerfield can have a winning season.”
