Drunken Driver Clocked At 107 MPH: Lake County Sheriff's Blotter

The 24-year-old Wauconda resident was traveling in a 55 mph zone and had no insurance at the time of their arrest, according to police.

  • Merly Gonzalez, 24, of the 200 block of Slocum Lake Road, Wauconda, is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, speeding (107 mph in a 55 mph zone), no insurance, and was arrested Jan. 23 at Route 12 and Ivanhoe Road, unincorporated Wauconda. Bond was set at $35,000 and a court date of Feb. 23 was assigned.
  • Ryan M. Smith, 37, of the 700 block of Jade Lane, Round Lake, is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, no insurance, and was arrested Jan. 26 at Fairfield and Townline roads, unincorporated Grayslake. Bond was set at $3,000 and a court date of March 5 was assigned.

UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF DRUG PARAPHERNALIA

A 24-year-old Gurnee resident is accused of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, and was arrested Jan. 23 at 34th Street and Sheridan Road, Zion. Bond was set at $1,500 and a court date of Feb. 15 was assigned.

SPEEDING

  • Matthew J. Welgat, 47, of the 100 block of Clubhouse Drive, North Barrington, is accused of aggravated speeding (90 mph in a 55 mph zone), and was arrested Jan. 24 at Route 12 and Valentine Road, North Barrington. Bond was set at $1,500.
  • Matthew Kaminski, 31, of the 700 block of Baldwin Road, Palatine, is accused of aggravated speeding (91 mph in a 55 mph zone), had a warrant out of Cook County for aggravated assault, and was arrested Jan. 26 at Route 12 and Valentine Road, North Barrington. Bond was set at $6,000 for the Cook County charge. A future court date in Lake County was to be determined at the time of the report.

IMPROPER TRANSPORTATION OF CANNABIS

An 18-year-old Park City resident is accused of improper transportation of cannabis, and was arrested Jan. 25 at Dorothy Street and N. Metropolitan Avenue, Beach Park. Bond was set at $1,500.

Devin K. Erickson, 24, of the 5800 block of Woodward Avenue, Downers Grove, is accused of leaving the scene of an accident, and was arrested Jan. 25 at Route 12 and Quentin Road, Deer Park. Bond was set at $1,500 and a court date of Feb. 8 was assigned.

DOMESTIC BATTERY

Albert St. Clair, 33, of the 1900 block of Madison Avenue, Gurnee, had a warrant for domestic battery, and was arrested Jan. 27 in the 300 block of Washington Street, Waukegan. Bond was set at $35,000 and a court date of Feb. 9 was assigned.

Joel S. Saxe, 49, of the 37800 block of N. Nora Place, unincorporated Spring Grove, is accused of domestic battery, and was arrested Jan. 29 in the 37800 block of N. Nora Place, unincorporated Spring Grove. Bond was set at $100,000 and a court date of Feb. 1 was assigned.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY

  • Angel Valencia, 21, of the 100 block of Greenview Avenue, Mundelein, is accused of criminal damage to property, and was arrested Jan. 27 in the 31200 block of Route 45, unincorporated Libertyville. Bond was set at $1,500 and a court date of March 15 was assigned.
  • Julizza A. Ayala, 23, of the 38200 block of N. Sheridan Road, Beach Park, is accused of criminal damage to property, and was arrested Jan. 28, in the 39000 block of N. Sheridan Road, Beach Park. Bond was set at $1,500 and a court date of Feb. 22 was assigned.

VIOLATION OF AN ORDER OF PROTECTION

Raymond D. Shoemaker, 57, of the 18600 block of Brooke Avenue, unincorporated Grayslake, is accused of violation of an order of protection, and was arrested Jan. 29 in the 18600 block of Brooke Avenue, unincorporated Grayslake. Bond was set at $35,000 and a court date of Feb. 9 was assigned.
