Holy Cross 5th Grade Girls' Volleyball Team Goes Undefeated!

Congratulations to the 5th grade girls at Holy Cross School and Coach Kate McGrath and Assistant Coach John Dorsey for their undefeated season! The girls’ record was 14-0.

According to Coach Kate, “One key element to the girls’ success is the ability to start team sports earlier than junior high. As 5th graders, this is their second year playing together and we are lucky that Holy Cross supports team sports beginning in 4th/5th grades. Being a part of a team is so very important for young children, as working together and supporting one another is a life lesson that will follow them into adulthood. This is a wonderful group of girls, who have worked hard this year and were very focused on improving serves and passing to each other.”

The coaches are parents of Holy Cross students, live in Deerfield and are experienced volleyball players. Kate’s volleyball career includes playing at New Trier HS, and John Carroll University in Cleveland; she coached Downers Grove South and this is her 4th year at Holy Cross. Coach John has extensive experience including playing beach volleyball and playing/coaching in several Chicago leagues.
