Lake County Memorial Day 'Click It Or Ticket' Campaign Starts Friday
The Lake County Sheriff's Office said the traffic enforcement campaign will run through May 30.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — While Memorial Day weekend traditionally marks the unofficial start to summer, the Lake County Sheriff's Office is ramping up traffic enforcement in advance of the holiday. The Memorial Day "Click It Or Ticket" campaign begins Friday and runs through May 30.
The campaign is administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation with federal highway safety funds, according to the LCSO. Police say wearing a seat belt can reduce the risk of fatal injury by 45 percent.
The Illinois Secretary of State estimates more than 30,000 Illinois motorists annually are convicted of safety belt violations. About 2,000 of those motorists are convicted of not properly restraining their children in a moving vehicle

According to LCSO, 93 percent of drivers in Illinois comply to wearing seat belts, while unbelted occupants still account for more than half of those killed in motor vehicle crashes.
