Eunice Chadwick Canty, 86, died after a brief illness on February 11, 2016 in Lincolnshire, IL. Born on January 15, 1930, in Taunton, Massachusetts, to Howard Carlton Chadwick and Marion Flynn Chadwick, she grew up in a loving family with four brothers and sisters -- Helen, Howard, Jean, and David -- with whom she remained close until the ends of their lives. She excelled at Taunton High School, and was a proud graduate of Wellesley College, where she made many lifelong friends. After college, Eunice held several interesting jobs in Boston and New York City focused on investments, economics, and public policy research. A treasured moment for Eunice was her marriage in July 1960 to George R. Canty, Jr. In 2010 they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. She was and remains the love of George’s life. Eunice also was a patient, wise, nurturing, and fun mother to sons George (Rachel) of Chevy Chase, MD and John (Mary) Canty of Lake Bluff, IL. She treasured her five grandchildren Barbara, Jack, Alex, Henry, and Malcolm, and loved watching them grow up. She gained great satisfaction volunteering, ranging from Wellesley College to the Boca Raton Historical Preservation Board. She served as President of the Royal Palm Yacht and Country Club’s Women’s Club, and as President and Chairman of the Boca Raton Historical Society. Under her leadership, the Old Town Hall renovation took place in 1984. In these efforts - and in nearly everything she did - she made friends for life. Despite her 37 years in Florida, she remained a New Englander at heart, with a wry wit, stoic determination, lack of pretense, and a deep love for the Boston Red Sox. All of us are so grateful to have known Eunice--she brought so much brightness in our lives--and we will never forget her.
