Mariano’s Construction May Have Disturbed Wetlands
Development project at Waukegan and Half Day roads in Bannockburn halted after builder's violation.

BANNOCKBURN, IL - The construction of the Mariano’s grocery store at the corner of Waukegan and Half Day roads in Bannockburn may have disturbed protected wetlands.
The development project was stopped for two weeks between sept. 21 and Oct. 3 after an order was issued by the Army Corps of Engineers, the Deerfield Review reports.
While installing waterline, the project builder, Continental Properties Company, dug straight down instead of horizontally and may have affected the protected area although officials say it still isn’t clear if they did. It was the downward drilling that may have resulted in a disturbance at the wetlands on the eastern edge of the property.
