North Shore Unitarian Church Announces Settlement of Lucas Hergert as Senior Minister

NSUC Senior Minister, Lucas Hergert, shares excitement for the future

DEERFIELD, IL — The North Shore Unitarian Church announces the settlement of Lucas Hergert as Senior Minister to the congregation. Rev. Hergert assumed his duties in August.

“I am excited about all of the possibilities in Deerfield.” Rev. Hergert said recently. “The North Shore Unitarian Church wants to make a difference in the world and it mirrors my own interest in social justice and interfaith work.”

Rev. Hergert is a life-long Unitarian. “I heard my call to the ministry when I was in high school in Cincinnati.” he noted recently. “Our city charter was amended to allow LGBTQ folks to be discriminated against, and several school friends and I became active in the dispute. My Unitarian church was a voice of inclusion and acceptance in the midst of the controversy, and I decided then to dedicate myself to this work.”

He describes his love of ministry as arising out of his love of people. “It is such an honor to be a companion to someone through a difficult time in their lives, or to show up in moments of joy,” he says.

Rev. Hergert graduated with a degree in philosophy from Miami University and received his Master of Divinity from Harvard Divinity School and Doctor of Ministry from the Pacific School of Religion. This is his second ministry, having previously served the Unitarian Universalist Church in Livermore, California, where he helped form Interfaith Interconnect, a group of churches, mosques, and synagogues dedicated to informing the local area about the diversity of its faith communities.
