The North Suburban YMCA’s Social Responsibility Committee is collecting essential pet supplies during the month of February through March 15th. The supplies will be donated to three local animal shelters including Wright-Way Rescue, Orphans of the Storm Animal Shelter, and Heartland Animal Shelter. Items may be dropped off at the Y’s front desk located at 2705 Techny Rd. in Northbrook.

In addition, volunteers of all ages are invited to the Y on Sunday, March 9 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. to help create fleece pet blankets to donate to the shelters. The construction of the blankets require simple cutting and tying, with no sewing required. Space is limited and participants are asked to bring their own scissors and 1.5 yards of fleece. “The community is encouraged to bring their pet item donations anytime between now and March 15,” said Michelle Kruse, chair of the North Suburban YMCA’s Social Responsibility Committee.

“One of the easiest ways to teach our children about kindness and empathy is to treat animals with love and empathy. The pet blanket making event helps to nurture compassion towards animals while providing opportunities for family fun and togetherness,” continues Kruse.
